The most powerful conversation in your life is the one you have every day with yourself. Telling yourself what to do, what not to do and giving yourself rewards and punishments.
For instance I'm telling myself that this post is important. But another voice is saying "I should be on the bike, riding around the Christchurch Airport." So I can do both, but this has to be short.
A very powerful way to add weight to your self talk is to write about it. That gives the words permanence if you write in a hard covered diary or journal. But if you write on a network like this, or in your blog, it has the advantage of being searchable, and it may solicit a comment from someone else.
30 years ago I wrote extensively in my handwritten journal. Today I write in many places. Writing has reinforced many of my ideas, and given me strength over long periods of time. It's surprising to me still how often I discover a "new idea" I'm currently having has roots back in my journal several years previously.
I conclude that most of our new ideas take a long time to develop.
